Friday 5 for October 10: Ties that Bind

I’ve missed out a lot of Friday 5’s since I started doing this again recently. Here’s this week’s questions:

1. “My hands are tied” is an English-language cliche that means “I’d like to do something about this unfortunate situation, but I don’t have the ability or authority.” In what current situation do you feel your hands are tied? Having internet access anytime I want in our house. This may seem shallow but it’s really frustrating because I’m pretty much an internet addict. Lately, after my laptop died and after selling our old desktop computer, I had my internet connection disconnected because not only do I lack a proper device to use it, I’m also leaving for the States pretty soon. It’s really just hard for me not to be able to go online at home, like a drug addict on rehab. :) I may have the ability or the authority to change the situation, certain circumstances like me migrating to another country soon disables me to. So I’m really just gonna have to wait ’til late November when I’m in the States with my parents and I can own a new laptop again and enjoy the comforts of a WiFi connection at home.

2. Railroad ties are the evenly-spaced slats that lie perpendicular to train tracks and whose function is to hold the tracks in place and to distribute the weight of the train. Who are the railroad ties in your life? Flip, my extended family at home, and of course my parents.

3. What are your feelings about Thai food? I love Thai food! I love the spiciness and that unique taste that you can only find in Thai food. Too bad there are only a few, and I mean really few, Thai restaurants around here. But that’s gonna change soon… ;)

4. Whose thighs do you admire? I haven’t seen much thighs lately, so I’m going to say Britney Spears’ – years ago when she was still with Justin Timberlake and still have every bit of her sanity.hehe She looked really fit, healthy, and clean then,

5. A red tide is a proliferation (in ideal circumstances) of oceanic algae that often seem to discolor seawater and threaten other sealife. If the ocean is your life and the algae the harmful attitudes, thoughts, or moods that crowd out the good stuff, under what conditions in your life is red tide most likely to become a problem? Hmm..this is pretty deep. I think this type of situation will only happen when I have pretty much lost my mind and sanity. More likely it can happen when I’m stir crazy, just staying inside the house alone for days doing nothing or when I’m stuck in a place I totally dislike. That can really drive me insane and make me lose sight of the positive things in life. Apart from that, I think I have a firm sense of conviction to not let the bad things in life overshadow the good.

  1. Your last sentence in #5? I wish more people in life had this outlook! Happy Friday!

  2. I think everyone can get a bit addicted to the interent, it all comes down to what you do or not do about it. If you need to step away, by all means one should. I find that when I go on vacation I am on the internet less and it is kinf of freeing sometimes. Have a great weekend.
