Desktop Free View
I was tagged by a good online friend and a fellow Bacolodnon, Joni to post a screen capture of my desktop. I had a hard time capturing an image of my desktop at first because the Print Screen button on my keyboard just won’t work anymore. You see, I’m now using Windows Vista, and there are a lot of things around that works differently than those from the previous Window editions. This kinda bugs me because I’ve been using Windows ever since I started my computer life years and years ago. And every time Windows comes up with a new edition, there weren’t really major changes when it comes to keyboard shortcuts, digicam picture transfer and the likes. But in Windows Vista, a lot has changed. I couldn’t get around it easily the first time. Even until now, after 6 months of using it, I’m still having troubles here and there because a lot of things that I’ve gotten used to do in previous Windows editions now have different ways of doing in Vista. It’s kinda like being a newbie in computer all over again. I can’t count the times that I’ve thought of switching back to XP. But the hassle of changing my OS all over again and configuring some compatibility when it comes to programs I’ve installed hinder me from jumping into that thought. There are a lot of help and resources I can get from the net anyway during times when I’d totally feel that Vista is driving me crazy. And using the latest when it comes to computer technology always gives me a delightful feeling, even if I think that Vista is a complete step down in some ways from XP. And even if I’ve come up with a conclusion that I don’t like Windows Vista. It has some cool new stuff but I still think Windows is trying to imitate Apple’s Mac on this one, especially when it comes to aesthetics. And it comes out as a trying hard and a cheap imitation. Sorry, Mr. Gates.
So, I was trying to do a screen capture the old way without knowing that it wouldn’t work. I pressed the Print Screen on my keyboard and pasted the image on a photo editor. I did this twice because whenever I’d try to paste the supposed screen capture on my photo editor, the Paste option is unclickable – there is no image to paste. The Print Screen button on the keyboard is now useless. So I googled “how to screen capture in windows vista” and found this helpful link. Turns out the Print Screen button feature has now been replaced with the “Snipping Tool.” I admit that the Snipping Tool is kinda nifty. But I still think Windows Vista is making a lot of people scratch their heads with their new features.
Anyway, I didn’t mean to make this post a Windows Vista review. ;) Let’s go to the meme now.
The Desktop Free View instructions are:
A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun.
You can do a screen capture by:
[1] Going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key).
[2] Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V).
[3] If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it.
B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.
C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their desktop as well.
D. Add your name to this list of Free Viewers with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Free View post to promote it to succeeding participants.
And yes, Steps 1 – 3 under instruction A is inapplicable if you’re using Windows Vista. ;) Here’s now a peek into my desktop (please click to enlarge):

Nice desktop ah! I see you have mIRC. I haven’t used that in years. Before adik gid ko sa IRC. hehe.
Weird, I don’t seem to have problems with the PrintScr command of Vista on my Vaio. But I’ll still check out the link you gave. Para may idea mn ko. :)
Tuod Jons? Nano ni ya ang Vista ko man.hehe Maybe because Windows XP ni ang laptop ko before. Gn pa upgrade lng ni bi sa Vista.
Cute sng Snipping Tool. ;) Maybe Vista isn’t so bad.hehe Except lng sng picture upload tool. Ka try ka na? Di ba you can’t choose which pics you want to upload, unlike sa XP? Gna upload nya lng tanan nga pics and videos nga ara sa digicam.
And about the mIRC, ;) wala na mn ko ga chat subong. I only use it to download mp3s sometimes sa #mp3manila. :)
Edit: I just noticed from the instructions that I should give an explanation if I want about my dekstop. ;) Hehe..didn’t read it completely before posting my screen capture. :) Well, my desktop’s wallpaper is from Windows Vista’s default images. I have the California time, aside from the Philippine time because my parents reside there. The yellow “Post-it” note says “Sleep more!”, something I need to do. :) And as you can see, I have a number of “kiddie” games. My favorite is Zuma and Bookworm Adventures.hehe
I happen to think that the calendar, clock and weather GUI’s take too much unnecessary spaces.
Will post the appearance of my desktop later.
Also, I bet all your stones that my desktop is much more interesting than yours, and so is my kung fu!
Nice desktop. this is my first visit, got here thru joni’s. nice site you got here.
hmmm.. i love ur wallpaper.. next lng ko blog about this, i’ve been tagged by Joni man.. hehehe… still dont have enough time to blog :)
